Another week, another week of comic pulls. This is another relatively light week for my pulls, but we do get one of my favourite titles: Radiant Black! If you’ve been following me on Instagram, you likely have seen my bordering obsession with this series; its one of my few consistent pulls.
Other than that, we have our usual dose of Star Wars, and an event I’ve been pulling but have yet to start. Honestly, my backlog of comics is a Sisyphean task to catch up on, as I always want to read all previous runs in order to get the fullest picture. Regardless of my questionable comic habits, lets get this list started…
Radiant Black #12
Publisher’s Summary: “Camera on. Mic check. Put the stream live. Hide the alien artifact that gives you superpowers. Wipe away the tears. And three, two, one…
Series writer KYLE HIGGINS is joined by Twitch superstar MEGHAN “STRAWBURRY17” CAMARENA and iconic artist GOÑI MONTES for a standalone story that reveals the secret origins of Radiant Pink!”
Story by Meghan Camarena and Kyle Higgins, with art by Igor Monti and Goni Montes
Much like how we got the origin to Radiant Red in issue #6, in issue #12 we are now getting more origin info. Here we see how Eva, A.K.A. Radiant Pink, got her hands on the power of the Radiant. We also get cameos form Radiant Yellow, which is something I felt was much needed at this point.
The overall cast of the series seems to be getting more and more development, and the story is highly benefitting from it. Thing are going to be picking up steam with the upcoming releases of Supermassive, Rogue Sun, and the Radiant Red Miniseries. Can’t wait!
Star Wars The High Republic: Trail of Shadows #5
Publisher’s Summary: “It all comes crashing together in this finale as Emerick and Sian come face to face with mystery they’ve been hunting. Who will survive? Phase one of Star Wars: The High Republic culminates in this crashing conclusion.
Story by Daniel Jose Older, with art by David Wachter
Like I mentioned last week, all the High Republic comics and miniseries are slowly reaching their end, and Trail of Shadows is no exception. I’ve been anxiously waiting for this issue, as I crave nothing more than more information on the deadly Leveller that has been plaguing our High Republic heroes across media. As this series is focused on such answers, I’m sure this final climactic issue will give at least a few glimmers of exposition.
The mix of Star Wars and noir crime thriller has been a pleasant change of pace, and I have enjoyed every issue thus far. Much like the previous miniseries, Monster of Temple Peak, its always enjoyable to get more glimpses of the larger cast and secondary plotlines.
Devil's Reign #4
Publisher’s Summary: “NEW YORK UNDER SIEGE! Wilson Fisk, duly elected Mayor of New York, has broken. Whatever shred of decency that may have been left of him is gone entirely and now, with an army of super villains at his command, THE KINGPIN has set his gaze upon everyone the heroes of the Marvel Universe hold dear—but even the Kingpin is unaware of the magnitude of danger he has put the city, its citizens and even himself with his war against the city’s super heroes!”
Story by Chip Zdarsky, with art by Marco Checchetto
Once again, I have to admit that I am very behind on Zdarsky’s run, and thus have been pushing off reading this event. That being said, I have nothing but high hopes, so I had to make sure I pulled each issue so I can do my inevitable binge.
Kingpin has always been a favourite villain of mine, probably due to my love of anything relating to organized crime (That is merely an educational passion, not an admittance of being a criminal mastermind. Won’t catch me slipping, you cyber sleuths out there in your bond-esque villain rooms.)
Seeing Kingpin use his brains and influence to combat not just daredevil, but a large chunk of the Marvel hero roster has me very intrigued. Zdarsky has earned countless praise from most people, so I’m sure this run will be very well remembered. Fingers crossed!
That about sums it up for the week! Nothing crazy, which my wallet is highly grateful for. I’m sure this streak won’t last long, but such is the life of an eclectic comic collector.
